Main Street Construction.

Main Street Construction.
by Joan Robson

The Glen Williams Main Street reconstruction began in May and will continue until September.
Over the course of the past several months, our Infrastructure
Services staff have been working very hard on finalizing the
design for a functional, appealing and suitable reconstruction of
Main Street and communicating these plans to the public. To this
end, The Town held an initial public information meeting at The
Glen Williams Town Hall last year for the homeowners and
businesses within the construction zone who were directly
affected. Subsequent to that, at the request of  Williams Mill, we
held a second public meeting on the Mill’s premises for only the
businesses affected by the reconstruction. Most recently, we held
our formal public meeting for all residents at the council
chambers of Halton Hills Civic Centre. We were fortunate to have
great attendance numbers at all three meetings with plenty of
feedback. As you can understand, this type of major construction
poses some challenges, many of which are of a physical and
engineering nature. In fact, after all the previous public meetings
and input, our senior staff met with church officials regarding a
sewer placement and learned that the diocese requested some
minor modifications, which staff have now incorporated.
Construction commences in May and is expected to be
completed  in  September.  Accommodations will, of course, be
made so that Canada Day celebrations will take place as usual in
the Glen Williams park.

We ask for your patience during the construction period as
there is no doubt that we will all experience various degrees  of
inconvenience. However, I do believe that the overall final
outcome will be a source of enjoyment and pride to Glen residents
and business owners.
Other enquiries have been received regarding the desire for
or opposition to sewers in The Glen. At the moment, Eden Oaks
Development is working with the region and the town to
see just how their subdivision  can be serviced. As you
know, private septic beds are no longer permissible in
subdivisions in Glen Williams for environmental reasons.
Although the GWCA is keeping abreast of developments in
this regard, no decisions have been made as of this time.

Enjoy your summer.
